Drive Pilot, Mercedes-Benz’s Level 3 “conditionally automated driving” feature, is getting a speed bump. The system will now support speeds of up to 95km/h (59mph) on German motorways, a sign that the automaker is feeling bullish about its boundary-pushing technology.

Mercedes-Benz has raised the top speed of its pioneering Drive Pilot self-driving system, and plans further updates down the road.

Mercedes-Benz said its cars equipped with its automated driving system will be upgraded to drive autonomously at up to 95 kilometres per hour on German motorways in certain conditions. Pending certification by Germany's motor transport authority,

German drivers should be able to enjoy the raised autonomous speed from early next year, but cars in other markets remain limited to 37 mph
