Intel has been in a bit of a dubious position for some time. With instabilities in its 13th and 14th-generation chips and its latest chips, the Intel Core Ultra 5 245K and Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, underperforming in games, Intel needs a bit of a win. It could just get that win next month if its new set of Battlemage GPUs is up to the task.

In the GPU market, Nvidia's main strategy has been to sell pricier but more power-efficient chips than AMD. AMD usually sells cheaper but less power-efficient chips that can offer comparable performance to Nvidia's chips. That's why Nvidia's H100 GPUs currently cost roughly four times more than AMD's comparable MI300X Instinct GPUs.

The gaming GPU maker reportedly has a new consumer PC Arm CPU in the works, set to challenge the AMD Ryzen and Intel Core duopoly.

While Intel said it will miss its modest 2024 revenue goal for Gaudi processors, rival AMD upgraded its full-year sales forecast for Instinct GPUs to a much higher number in the Nvidia-dominated data center AI chip market.
