Theory 1 features Lotus’ new “Lotuswear” interior that promises an immersive and personalized driving experience. It adapts physically to the driver and passengers, making seats more comfortable and communicating with lights and haptic feedback that can tell you when to make a turn, for example.

You step into the car through the head-turning doors that slide back and upward, taking part of the roof with it for easy driver access. Then you perch your bum on the smooth carbon fibre in front of the passenger seat, and simply slide across into the central driver’s seat.

As tends to be the case with high-performance EVs, the Theory 1 is all-wheel drive, with a combined output of 986 horsepower. Lotus claims a 0-62 mph run in less than 2.5 seconds alongside a top speed of 198 mph.

Lotus is keen to point out that its Theory 1 concept is not a future model. Rather, it's a representation of the company's design manifesto, a physical embodiment of its Digital, Natural and Analogue (DNA) core principals.

Lotus has published a series of teaser videos on its social media channels showing what could be a concept previewing its next electric sports car – a rival to the upcoming electric 2025 Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman.

The Lotus Theory is what the new design language is called, underpinned by three core principles: Digital, Natural and Analogue. This is the first car designed under the Theory manifesto, hence Theory 1.
