The IMD said the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal will continue to bring heavy rainfall over Tamil Nadu's coastal districts on Wednesday and Thursday.

It continued raining in Chennai the entire night. Adyar, Meenambakkam, and Nandanam received 6 cm overnight. Wednesday was expected to be isolated heavy rainfall in a few places with conditions likely to ease out on Thursday. In view of this precautionary measure, schools were shut down in Perambalur, Ariyalur and Cuddalore districts.

Chennai is expected to experience heavy rainfall on November 13, prompting the IMD to issue an alert for the city and eleven surrounding districts. As a precaution, Tuesday has been declared a school holiday in Chennai.

Chennai is expected to have a maximum temperature of around 30 degrees Celsius, with the minimum temperature likely ranging between 24 and 25 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has warned that besides Chennai, districts including Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Ramanathapuram, Virudhunagar, and Madurai are expected to see heavy rain throughout the day.

Initially, Chennai officials indicated that schools would operate as usual; however, the decision was reversed within 30 minutes due to the intensity of the rainfall and the forecast for showers.

Schools in Chennai will remain closed today, November 12, due to the heavy rain forecast, news agency ANI reported. “In light of the heavy rain forecast, a holiday has been declared for all schools in Chennai today,” ANI quoted District Collector Rashmi Siddharth Zagade as saying.

The state’s Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin confirmed, “We have increased the number of motor pumps and deployed additional volunteers based on rain patterns observed in October. The Tamil Nadu government is fully prepared for the rains.

Chennai and nearby districts are set to receive heavy rainfall due to a low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal. IMD has issued yellow alerts as rain is expected to intensify across Tamil Nadu through November 15.
