Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has blamed the United States in part for the surge in cartel violence terrorizing the northern state of Sinaloa which has left at least 30 people dead in the past week.

The ongoing conflict between rival factions of the Sinaloa Cartel has resulted in 53 deaths, 51 missing since September 9.

"Yes, of course... for having carried out this operation," the president said when asked if the American government was "jointly responsible" for the situation
